Texture on the Runway

I had the honor and privilege of attending Texture on the Runway, a showcase of kinks, curls, and waves presented by Texture Media. It is so exciting to see the natural hair movement apart of New York City's fashion week. Fashion week in New York represents everything trendy, glamorous, and alluring, and for the fashion industry to finally acknowledge and celebrate  curls and kinks is astonishing. The day started with the lovely models getting glammed and prepped for the show. The models were gorgeous and the stylist only made them look even more phenomenal. The hairstyles were unbelievable, models were getting everything from hair died hot pink to tightly curled to (my favorite) sculpted into this beautiful crimped beehive resembling updo. And to think we sometimes don't know what to do with our curly hair. The room was filled with natural beauties like Kim Coles, Taren Guy, and Afrobella, all excited for the night's show. I had the opportunity to chat with actress Kim Coles who has been officially been rocking her natural hair since December of 2010. She expressed the difficulty of having natural hair in Hollywood. "our hair takes time, and television is quick" she said while breaking down what it is like to be natural in the business. I also chatted it up with one of the fashion show's host and popular youtuber Taren Guy. She was especially excited for the show and when I asked about the role of natural hair in fashion she expressed " the beauty industry needs to get with the program". I couldn't agree more! The ladies were all done up by the show's sponsors Arrojo, Matrix, Hair Rules, Curls Unleashed, and Minardi Luxury Color Care.Enjoy the below video of The behind the scenes action.

Okay so the models were styled and glammed and it was now time to hit the catwalk! Everyone gathered at the City Winery in Soho for the show. After 30 minutes of mingling, picture snapping, and wine sipping everyone made their way around the stage. The beautiful hosts Taren Guy and the president and cofounder of Texture Media Michelle Breyer introduced  each line, and each line showcased 5 models with hair dos to die for! Overall is was a great night. Texture on the Runway was the first runway show of its caliber to celebrate the texture revolution, but I'm hoping it will be far from the last.
